Motivational Quote for the Week:

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” For Whom the Bell Tolls, John Donne

Success Lesson for the Week:  When is it gonna get here???

It’s a question EVERYONE has been asking around here, referring of course to Spring! To a lot of us up North here, we’ve been wondering how long is this Winter going to last… perhaps with that thought pattern we actually extended it. Hmmm…Either way, I’ll take the sunshine, the warm breezes and the first hint of flowers peeking out from their long winter nap. It’s official though, even though we have a few more days on the calendar- yesterday I saw a robin (he was serenading me quite loudly, as if to say “ come out of the house and look at me!”), today I saw crocuses in my lawn and lots of buds on the trees. It never ceases to amaze me at the precision of Nature. All of these things happen in perfect order and all are interdependent on the other. I also heard the geese flying back this week… right over my house. It’s like this giant button gets pushed and all living things kick into gear, one by one appearing at precisely the moment  in the cycle they should.

You know, I use Nature often as examples and metaphors to life and success and just recently was reading an old classic where the author was suggesting the same thing, telling us to look at Nature for examples of how to live and work our lives and even how to speak. Between that and all this gorgeous Spring activity I’ve been observing it got my wheels spinning regarding the goals we set and questions I get from clients. There are lessons in everything if we pay attention and once again I pulled more “life lessons” from my garden and from observing all the emerging life…

1. Once we decide on a path we must stay laser focused; keep moving regardless of whatever obstacles we have attracted or created. Every year I find a patch of daffodils or tulips that are coming up but have a little more of a challenge than others. They have to push through a pile of old leaves or heavy snow. The amazing thing is that all the flowers know how to do is GROW. It is in their DNA that at a particular time they need to start pushing UP. And so they do… regardless of what is on top of them. Life finds a way. I see shoots that are either poking through a layer of leaves or have simply pushed the leaves up with them and as they grow they bust through and the leaves fall away... kind of like The Hulk when he metamorphed and his clothes tore up. Sometimes it’s a snow pile and yet they continue to grow, pushing the snow, particle by particle a little each day until they break through. They just KNOW what they need to do… what they are supposed to do and you could say they are focused on growth. Laser focused.

2. Trust in the Knowing. Too many times when we set goals, we hit a patch of doubt and worry; sometimes to the point where we give up on our goals. What we must understand is that if we are truly desirous of something and we have decided that we want to pursue that avenue, then the Universe begins to work on our “command” immediately. It is friendly to our plans and will come through, if we stay the course. Action and reaction are equal and opposite so we must continue to move forward with belief and KNOW that it will unfold when the time is right. When all the pieces are in place.  Tulips don’t question what they “know” in their DNA. Now, let’s be clear that plants don’t “think” like we do, but I believe in their DNA program they “know” what to do. They are energy as we all are and they respond to energy just as we do. The energy of the weather, the sun, the soil…all their external stimuli. They also know all will be provided as long as they continue to do their thing. The water, the nutrients, the sun will all be there, if they just keep going. We need to do the same.

3. Patience. We live in a society of immediate gratification and instant everything. Thus the question, “ When is it gonna get here?” in reference to our goals. What we must understand with our goals is the Law of Gestation. All things in due time. Literally. Your goal will manifest on it’s due date (which is up to the Universe) and not a moment earlier. All things, all transactions, all of your behavior and actions and lessons must be in place. You must be in exactly the right mindset... before your goal will manifest. It cannot be forced… force negates. We can’t rush the manifestation of our goal any more that I could have rushed the crocuses. Going out in my yard in January, assuming I had the equipment to do so, and digging up the area where my crocuses come up to check on them and maybe put some fertilizer down would not have made any difference except to probably disrupt the natural cycle. When we try to hurry up the universe we are actually in a state of resistance as opposed to allowing (the natural state of the crocus). When we resist, we push away.  You must allow your goal to manifest when the time is right. The time will be right when you have done ALL you are supposed to do; when all the pieces are in place.

4. Be in the moment…enjoy life. When we are busy manifesting our goals we are in the moment, focused on what we are doing, wrapped in the passion and emotion of what we desire and how it will feel when it arrives. This is the state of “being” we want to be in all the time. Being present, living in the NOW, feeling the joy of being alive. That’s what nature does. It lives in the moment... that’s all that matters really. You don’t see animals worrying about something they did yesterday and plants don’t lose sleep over “what if I don’t get enough sun tomorrow?” Their natural state is to just “be”. Live in the moment, grow, soak up the sun, provide beauty, play their part in the bigger plan and feel joy. If you’re thinking that plants don’t feel joy or that animals don’t have emotion, think of this. Have you ever seen a huge field of sunflowers follow the sun as it climbs in the sky? It’s like they feel the warmth on their faces. Or a fragrant rose enjoying a bee gathering it’s pollen? Ever see a cat napping in a sunny window all stretched out in bliss? They feel emotion... they are energy and they respond just as we do, maybe not technically the same, but they do. Life is life regardless of it’s form and we need to be living and experiencing it in the moment, creating in each moment, knowing that it is leading us towards growth and fuller expression and to our goals.

5. Lastly, we don’t manifest in a vacuum. We have to do it by ourselves but we cannot do it alone. In other words, yes, it is our goal and we have to take action but we are not independent of each other and the world of life; we are INTER dependent. All of life is. And sometimes we need a little help. It’s ok to ask for help and in business it is critical. When we don’t know how to do something we find someone who does to either teach us or do it for us in exchange for a fee. In nature, perhaps the wind carries pollen to a plant that needs it to bear fruit, a hole created by a woodpecker becomes a nest later for a smaller bird, an animal pushes aside leaves as it forages, thereby allowing the sun to touch the ground where tender young shoots are about to break through on their journey of life… and so it goes with us.  Sometimes we need help and sometimes we can offer help. And sometimes we can help nature, which helps all of us. The recent oil spill in Australia is a tragedy, but because some of us are dedicated to serving wildlife, thousands of birds and animals will be cleaned up and cared for and returned to the cycle of life. These kinds of things affect all of us in a huge way, in a way we may not even know for some time. It is the same with goals. When we help someone else achieve their goal, we are contributing in some way to ours and to a better world. When we are lifted or we lift another, we are all lifted.

This past weekend at my Mom’s I decided to “help” nature along. Because of all the snow we had this year, there is an inordinate amount piled up along the house where she has several patches of Spring bulbs planted. I began to chip away at the pile and sure enough, there they were.. struggling but making it.. then I tried to chip away at a larger pile and it was like hitting cement with the shovel…until I pushed it with my foot… there was movement and after much heaving and ho-ing I managed to push over a block of ice and snow that weighed about 100 pounds… and what did that reveal? A large patch of daffodils trying desperately to get out. They were growing sideways! It’s almost as if I could hear an audible sigh and I intuitively heard a little “thank you!”. Now, you may not think this is a big deal, but I felt elated… like I had just done something that would help the world be a little better off. You see that is the beauty of realizing we can’t do it alone. We really are interdependent… not just on each other but on all life. And when we serve, when we help, we are also moving ourselves into a vibration to attract what we need; we are living from passion and from a place of love. And when we come from love, the Universe responds with a big smile and rewards us with the very things we desire… and more.
